Edith Irving was my great Aunt My apologies for not speaking French, but it was a great pleasure to find this reference to my great aunt Edith who died only a few years ago, aged 97. Edith was born in Whitehaven, England in 1906, and was already a very experienced nurse when she signed up for the Free French. She was one of the longest serving nurses in the Hadfield-Spears Unit, and sat beside Lady Spears in their final procession up the Champs-Elysees. There are many references to Edith in the various books, diaries and archive sound recordings that I have collected together over the last few years. She also left me a large collection of photographs from her time with Unit which I will attempt to upload to this site now that I have discovered its existence. I would be very happy for anyone who has an interest in the HS Unit to contact me at my e-mail address richard@pib.co.uk. for le mardi 12 juillet 2022 Contribution au livre ouvert de Edith Irving |
