The man I knew I remember him as a very articulate, friendly, and likeable young man who was a delight to know. He could lift the spirits of everyone who worked at the offices of the Free French at Carlton Gardens and St James's Square during the dark days of the war in 1942 and 1943, where he was responsible for producing films explaining the organisation. He was acting as Aide de Camps to General de Gaulle on an overnight train journey to Scotland in December 1942 when he heard on his portable radio the news that Admiral Darlon, the Vichy supporter, had been shot dead. De Cadenet woke General de Gaulle to tell him the news.
Whether the general was pleased to be awoken, I don't know; probably not, as Darlon would be just as dead in the morning as at midnight! Peter Watts le mardi 24 novembre 2015 Contribution au livre ouvert de Maxime Jacques Marcel de Cadenet | |
