"... I first saw her marvellous name, Edith de Born (the nom de plume of Edith Bisch) in a book review written by my favourite writer, Francis King who was a friend of Born. Francis King wrote:
“When the author presented me with a copy of the book (The Bidou Inheritance) some twenty years ago, my first astonished thought after devouring a single page was “How beautifully this woman writes!” Why astonished? The answer to that is that Born was an Austrian, who married a Frenchman (Jacques Bisch) and lived much of her life in Belgium, but like Conrad, Nabokov and Julian Green, she miraculously wrote better in her adopted language than most people in the language to which they were born. My second, much later thought was that she dealt with the cupidity of the French bourgeoisie with all the vividness of a Francois Mauriac or a Julian Green…Barley twenty years have passed since the death of this agile and subtle writer. But when I mentioned her even to well-read friends, they usually frown, shake their heads and either say that they have never heard of her or murmur something like ‘Yes, the name vaguely rings a bell.'”
...
The official biography of the writer: Edith de Born began to write in English during the German Occupation, when she lived in Paris and worked for the Resistance. Born in Vienna, she was educated at private schools in Austria and finished her studies at Vienna University. She now makes her home in Brussels, Belgium, with her husband, Jacques E. Bisch, a French banker."
