Dr. Richard Bak, an economist and a philanthropist, died in Paris on Oct. 25. He was 89 years old and lived at 750 Park Avenue.
"Dr. Bak, a benefactor of the Federation of French War Veterans in New York City, was president of the Emil & Zerline Hahnloser?Richard Bak Foundation, gave grants for medical research.
He was an officer of the French Legion of Honor and was made an honorary citizen of Dijon and Orleans, France, for his gifts of historical relics.
Dr. Bak was born in Vienna and received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Würzburg.
He was a fellow of the American Geographical Society, a member of the American Arbitration Association and the American?French, Mexican and Austrian Chambers of Commerce."

Vienne France ou Autiche ? "... Dr. Richard Bak was born in Vienna in 1884. He earned his degree in Modern Languages and International Economics, and later a doctorate in Philosophy, from the University of Wurzburg. A renowned economist and statistician, he specialized in international markets, finance and economics.
Dr. Bak served as president of the International Union of Financial Markets. He also worked closely with the Universal Organization for the Protection of Animals, serving as president in northern Germany.
Dr. Bak was decorated by the French Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur and was an officer in that organization. He was a benefactor of the French War Veterans in New York City and the Musée de l’Armée in Paris. He was a Fellow of the American Geological Society and a member of the New York Board of Trade. Dr. Bak founded the Emile and Zerline Hahnloser-Richard Bak Fund, Inc. in New York, which supported medical research and the arts. He died on October 25, 1973 in Paris..."
