"FROM THE ARCHIVES On Tuesday I had a visit from an elderly French Lady, Pauline Genu, formerly Pauline Mitchell. The Mitchell family came to Wellingborough when their youngest children were evacuated from London in 1939. They bought “Springhill” on Broad Green where her mother Jeanne established a Convalescent Home for Free French soldiers. She was later awarded the Croix de Guerre for her work. Pauline and her sister Therese both married French soldiers in a double wedding by Canon Cosser in Our Lady’s in March 1942 and both their first child was baptized there in 1944. The whole family moved away to France after the liberation where they still live. Pauline was very pleased to find Our Lady’s much as she remembered."
