Vous indiquez en introduction qu'elle est morte à 75 ans mais dans le texte vous notez :"Elle décède le 1er août 1975, à l'âge de 84 ans"!? Où est l'erreur ? Son époux est né en 1897 donc on peut supposer qu'elle est bien né en 1899 comme l'indique son dossier de résistante et pas en 1890. Mais il faudrait vérifier son acte de naissance
Je trouve une liste de passagers arrivés à New York depuis le Havre le 2 juillet 1927 et il y est dit que Roberta Laurie a 27 ans et qu'elle est née en Ecosse
Mais je trouve aussi un recensement de 1920 à Mansfield, Bristol, Massachusset, ou Roberta Laurie, née à "Ain Catoger" en Ecosse, opératrice de téléphonie, a déjà 26 ans !!! Et je lis plus bas dans cette page "Betty Laurie lived in Mansfield MA and attended High school there. She worked at the telephone company before leaving to study in France" Donc c'est bien elle.

" evasion in Brittany – The Oaktree Mission of Val Williams and Ray Labrosse
The delivery to France of Val Williams and Ray Labrosse was delayed for more than two months, firstly by lack of a reception committee for their intended Lysander landing, and then by bad weather, so it wasn't until 20 March 1943 that they were finally parachuted ‘blind' into the Forêt de Rambouillet. The two agents landed safely with their guns and money but one of their bicycles, and more importantly, both their radios, were damaged.
Leaving Labrosse at Rambouillet, Williams took the only usable bicycle to Paris to find Yvonne Le Rossignol, a woman he had known earlier in the war. She took him to see their mutual friend Elisabeth Barbier at 72 rue Vaneau (in Montparnasse) where he was surprised to meet an agent who had been on the same aircraft when he had been parachuted in. This was "Armand", who directed the Alençon sector of the BCRA Mithridate intelligence network. Despite security rules which required separation between the networks, especially when they were of a different nature, Armand suggested that Williams contact Jean Lanlo at Saint-Quay-Portrieux. Jean Lanlo then put Williams in touch with Jean Camard, son of the maire at Etables and who, in addition to convoying, specialised in producing identity cards. Williams asked Jean Lanlo to organize the departures of the airmen from the Saint-Quay-Portrieux - Plouha – Paimpol area. Lanlo also sent Camard to Carhaix to contact a local group, known as "Pen Called" (Breton for hard heads) who were isolated with their military evaders following the arrest of Louis Nouveau in February. Jean Camard went to Geo Jouanjean to announce the visit of Guillaume (Val Williams) and Williams suggested that Jouanjean handled the airmen and arranged hiding them in the neighbourhood. He also asked Jouanjean to organize their departure to Paris and direct them on to Spain if a sea link was not possible. Ray Labrosse (aka Paul) also came to Brittany, but without a radio, Williams could only contact London through Mithridate. Meanwhile, Williams organized a base near the coast. After staying for a while with Jean Lanlo's parents at the Villa Soleil, Williams and Labrosse rented a house in Saint-Quay-Portrieux. Andrée Leveque, who had avoided arrest at her parents flat in Paris, joined them in Saint-Quay [Williams says he set up Labrosse and Mlle Leveque as man and wife]. More airmen continued to arrive and it was necessary to find new shelterers for them. Geo Jouanjean asked his friend Jean Guivarc'h to help and he introduced Jouanjean to Doctor Meynard, maire and general advisor, who gave him the address of an American friend who lived at Plourivo, la Comtesse Betty de Mauduit. Agreement was quickly reached and the airmen were moved from La Pie (Job Le Bec) and Carhaix (Mlle Correc and Mlle Marchais) and Saint-Quay-Portrieux, to the Chateau du Bourblanc where the airmen were pleasantly surprised to find a charming hostess who spoke their language perfectly. When Williams visited them on 10 April 1943 they were thirty-four (sic) evaders hidden in the attic of the chateau. Georges Jouanjean also had the huge problem of supplying them with food and soon acquired a solid reputation as a black-marketeer, particularly for meat. He was helped in this by Job le Bec, the miller at La Pie, and Bob Pennée, a butcher at Rostrenen. ..."

Memory Betty & Henri de Mauduit As friends of my parents, Betty and Henry de Mauduit have been guests in my home, and I have been privileged on two occasions to be their guest at Bourblanc. I treasure letters, film, and photographs from our friendship -- including one of Betty walking in the rose garden with Lord Mountbatton and film footage of M. Paul Weill, a prominent French attorney, husband of Leon Blum's daughter Suzanne, and a close friend of Henry's.
It saddens me to see how little of their story remains and how swiftly history forgets. Guilbert Renault, writing under a Resistance pseudonym Colonel Remy, provides the fullest telling of their story in his books LA LIGNE DE DEMARCATION, LA MAISON D'ALPHONSE, and AUTOUR DE LA PLAGE BONAPARTE. Each contains a chapter devoted to the de Mauduits. Much of what I read elsewhere is flawed -- or differs from Henry and Betty's narrative in privacy among friends.
Somewhere I hope there yet exists the guest book from Bourblabc. Betty hastily concealed it behind books in the library on the day of her arrest by the Nazis because it contained the names of Allied aviators who found refuge and safety at Bourblanc, including a number who were present at the time of her arrest. She was proud to learn many years later that none were caught.
According to the de Mauduits, the book remained hidden throughout Bourblanc's occupation by the Germans for the remainder of the war. Heny parachuted into Brittany at the time of D-Day and liberated his own home. That book was a treasure trove of history. résistance Betty, à son retour des camps, a été accueilli par mon père, Paul Hertzog, gendre de Marcel Cachin, autre "résistant" de Plourivo (et incidemment un des fondateur du pcf). Paul était médecin et a suivi la convalescence de Betty. "...The walk was intended to finish early that day because a visit to the Chateau du Bourblanc near Plourivo was included on the way back. Mme Martine Philipott met us and showed the party her beautiful home. There was no point in going in as the chateau had been almost destroyed by fire in 1990 and was still in the process of being renovated. Then the group drove into Plourivo to pay their respects to the Comtesse Roberta 'Betty' de Mauduit, the Scottish born American wife of Comte Henry de Mauduit who owned the chateau during the war when it was used as a safe house until Betty herself was arrested 12 June 1943. Betty was sent to Ravensbruck concentration camp but she survived the war and died in 1975. The party visited her grave at Plourivo to lay an ELMS cross and hold a minute's silence...."

"...En effet, fin 1931, Le Comte Henry De MAUDUIT et son épouse, Roberta " Betty " LAURIE, originaire d'Ecosse, mais élevée à Boston / U.S.A., font l'acquisition du château et le restaurent grâce à la générosité du Colonel Edward Nicholl DICKERSON, originaire de Newport / Rhode Island (U.S.A.), que Betty présentait comme son oncle et parrain. Le château rénové, en cette fin des années 30, est animé par des visites de personnalités du monde littéraire et artistique parisien . Citons, les écrivains : Pierre BENOIT, Francis CARCO, Joseph KESSEL, les peintres : André DIGNIMONT, Louis TOUCHAGUE…
La guerre vint, le 1er septembre 1939, interrompre cette agréable existence. Tandis qu'Henry de MAUDUIT rejoint la France Libre, Betty, se croyant protégée par sa nationalité américaine, reste au Bourblanc où elle participera à des réseaux de la Résistance - en y abritant des aviateurs alliés - jusqu'au 12 juin 1943, date de son arrestation par la Gestapo. Elle sera dirigée vers le camp de Ravensbruck où elle sera détenue 13 mois après son arrestation.
Le 20 juillet 1944, jour de l'attentat contre Hitler, elle est envoyée dans la région de Leipzig dans un " Kommando " dépendant du camp de concentration de Buchenwald.
Betty sera libérée en avril 1945. Séparée d'Henry de Mauduit, elle restera au Bourblanc jusqu'à sa mort, le 1er août 1975. De nombreuses personnalités, après la guerre, ont séjourné au château, telles que Georges BIDAULT, Ministre sous la 4ème République, Lord MOUNTBATTEN, Amiral britannique, Vice Roi des Indes…."
