Yvonne Istel, Wartime Volunteer, 99

Yvonne Istel, a volunteer worker during World Wars I and II on both sides of the Atlantic, died on Saturday in Paris. She was 99.
Mrs. Istel was honored for her service by President Reagan, by Mayor Edward I. Koch and by the Government of France. In World War I, she was active in an organization in France aiding prisoners of war. In the 1940's, as a resident of New York, she played a role in American Aid to France. She also did volunteer work for the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
Her husband, Andre Istel, an investment banker in Paris and New York, died in 1966 at the age of 78 when the couple lived on the Upper East Side. She is survived by their two sons, Jacques-Andre and Yves-Andre; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
